She Confirms Her Presence

Last Wednesday, as a precursor to our all-day meditation vigil, about 50 Soul Mystics gathered to send healing energy to the east coast in the wake of “Sandy” and divine light to the US for the upcoming elections. In the midst of the stillness, the Master Mary ~ in her aspect of Our Lady of Guadalupe ~ made her presence known to my inner vision. My left brain started to dismiss what I was seeing as it didn’t seem to make sense. After all, we were focusing on the storm victims and the election in the US, why would a “Catholic” master from south of the border join us? (I have to laugh at how compartmentalized my mind can be.) The beautiful Mother was very persistent however, and ignoring my own thoughts, I gently whispered “Our Lady of Guadalupe is with us.” After the gathering life became busy again and in a short time I forgot about the vision.

Sunday morning found Kai and I at the Soul of Yoga at 6:30am to prepare the Unity Room for the 12-hour “Meditation for the Nation.” The first group of meditators arrived at 7am and so it began. A short while later a dear friend, Lynn Alley, came into the room and rather than sitting down quietly, walked right up to where I was meditating. She was carrying a large candle and on the front was ~ you guessed it! ~ Our Lady of Guadalupe. As she placed it in my hand she explained that this aspect of Mary is considered to be the “Mother of the Americas.” I had no idea! (BTW, Lynn was not at our gathering on Wednesday.) My consciousness melted in a sea of gratitude. It is too dear to realize that this sweet and powerful aspect of Divine Mother recognized the efforts of our little community and not only joined us, but made Her presence known. The “Mother of the Americas” burned her light for the entire 12 hours, blessing and supporting every meditator.

The Great Ones care about what happens in every country and when we join together to uplift humankind we draw Their participation. With the Divine Presence burning within our hearts, let’s keep our consciousness high today and vision a kind, united, peaceful, loving world.

And please exercise your privilege to vote.

Aum Shanti Aum

Rise Above

“Rise above the crowd. Step Out of the choking monotony of ordinary existence into a finer more colorful life of achievement and ever-new peace. Open your eyes and see the power that you now have.” P. Yogananda

Despite what you might read, listen to, or hear in the media, humanity is not just the fighting, angry, or hopeless beings that are emphasized. There are extraordinary people doing extraordinary things. There is one instance in particular that I would especially like to share with you.

It is the story of Balpreet Kaur a Sikh woman who has facial hair due to a hormonal imbalance. In accordance with her religious beliefs, she does not shave or trim it. Because of this, she has a full-grown beard and noticeably thick sideburns. Someone took a picture of her without her knowledge and uploaded it to Reddit with the comment “I don’t know what to make of this.” The nasty comments started to pour in.

When a friend told her the picture was being ridiculed online, Balpreet didn’t respond in anger or even hurt, but rather with an extremely graceful, mature and deeply spiritual letter. Here is an excerpt:

“I’m not embarrassed or even humiliated by the attention that this picture is getting because it’s who I am. Yes, I’m a baptized Sikh woman with facial hair. Yes, I realize that my gender is often confused and I looked different than most women.

However, baptized Sikhs believe in the sacredness of the body-it is a gift that has been given to us by the Divine Being which is genderless actually, and we must keep it intact as a submission to the divine will. Just as a child doesn’t reject the gift of his or her parents, Sikhs do not reject the body that has been given to us.

By crying ‘mine, mine’, and changing this body-tool, we are essentially living in ego and creating a separateness between ourselves and the divinity within us. By transcending societal views of beauty, I believe that I can focus more on my actions. My attitude and thoughts and actions have more value in them than my body because I recognize that this body is just going to become ash in the end, so why fuss about it?”

This brave and beautiful woman is a much needed role model for women, especially our daughters. She is a young college student, and very clear on who she is and why she is on this earth. If you Google her you can read the entire letter. It’s worth it.

Don’t know about you, but when I was her age I would have been devastated if this happened to me and probably would have crumbled or gone into a period of self-loathing. Her response was from a place of attunement with her own divinity. And her gracious, understanding letter brought a written, public apology from the person who submitted the photo. He ended his comment with “you are a better person than I.” Looks like everyone learned a huge lesson.

Things, they are a changin’.

Meditation for the Nation

“When you walk with sight, you see what is.
When you walk with faith, you see what can be.”
Author Unknown

The United States was founded for a divine purpose. The great master of wisdom, Sri Yukteswar, once said that those who breathe the free air of earth must render it grateful service. So too, those who live in this country have a duty to help its celestial plan succeed.

We are facing very important elections and it can seem daunting to find truth in the onslaught of biased information. How do we begin to heal the challenges the country faces and manifest the divine blueprint? Einstein brilliantly observed that a problem cannot be solved with the same thinking that created it. So in order to steer the course of this country away from destructive divisiveness, it stands to reason that we must first shift our consciousness. Continue reading

For Our Health

Since blogs are for expressing one’s thoughts with their community, I feel compelled to speak about what is weighing on my heart and mind right now. It has to do with our health and making a stand for transparency regarding the quality of food we eat.
I recently was sent the film: WWW.genetic Roulette Movie.com and as I watched it, I began to understand the unexplainable symptoms that many of my family members have been experiencing. From joint pain and swelling, to allergies, fatigue, indigestion, inordinate burping, and stomach bloating, my loved ones had gone to the doctors, had tests, and were sent home without answers to their challenges because what they were suffering from wasn’t a disease per se. After seeing this documentary on GMO’s (Genetically Modified Organisms), I realize that what we are dealing with are the side effects of eating food that has been unnaturally and harmfully tampered with. Environment is stronger than will power

I built a geodesic dome in the 80′s. It was on Mt. Washington in Los Angeles, right below the Self-Realization Fellowship International Headquarters. The “Mother Center”as it is called, was not only the place where I worked but also the nucleus of the wonderful community. It was the early 1980′s and wanting to live close to this spiritual center, many of us young “householders” bought vacant lots scattered among the hills. Without much money we somehow managed to pull together enough resources to build a home. Dwellings of all shapes and sizes began to spring up and the neighborhood blossomed with joyous souls.

Budgets were tight and we had to do a lot of the work ourselves. Others who had been through the same process would show up to help with the finishing work. Long hours were spent tiling, painting, and cleaning together. But as exhausting as it was, much comradery and deep friendships were chisled. We were creating a community for our children to be born and grow up in, the common bond being the desire to live by the lofty precepts given by Yoganandaji. Weekly meditations were held in people’s homes and we would gather to chant and practice Kriya Yoga together. We celebrated marriages and births. We even had our own wonderful midwife and most babies were born at home under her expert care. My youngest daughter, Serena, came into the world in our dome-home. I fondly remember that after she was born, the women took turns providing home cooked meals for two weeks allowing me to enjoy my newborn and heal from the birth.

Without a deep commitment to meditation and the support of a community also determined to live a God-centered existence, it would have been much more challenging for me to establish the yogic life. “Environment is stronger than will power,” said Yogananda. With this great truth in mind the Soul of Yoga has opened a new wing. These two rooms are dedicated to 1) healing through unity and 2) yogic education. This new building will enable us to offer more support through meditation and many other aspects of conscious living. The expanded Soul is intended to be a funnel for the great teachings of east and west. Inclusive, respectful, yet very focused. Once the dust settles we can move forward and present the new offerings. But even that is only the beginning of the next stage of our vision for a spiritual community. Stay tuned!

All love,
Trisha

Pilgrimage to Mt. Shasta

Total Joy I just returned from a pilgrimage to Mt. Shasta and the attached picture is the perfect image of the joy I felt the entire time I was there.

The mountain had been calling me for years but this was my first real opportunity to go. It was perfect timing as Mt. Shasta turned out to be one of the most sacred places I have ever been. It became clear that my travels this year ~ two trips to Ireland, swimming with the wild dolphins in Bimini ~ were spiritual preparations for what was to come in Shasta. It would take volumes for me to describe the miracles, inspirations and realizations that came during this sacred week, each moment was filled with such magic. Continue reading

Eternal Vacation

I had the most relaxing day of my life recently. In the morning, I asked my yoga class what their favorite thing about a vacation was. One woman responded, “Getting away from everything.” In that instant I realized, too, that I wanted to get away from everything –especially to get away from my own nagging thoughts, emotions, and my same-old desires and fears. So in that class we all practiced “dropping anchor” of our consciousness into our soul peace, happiness, and love while at the same time letting go of the lure to engage in any fleeting thoughts and desires that raced through our minds. “Focus only on that which is Real and Everlasting,” the Great Ones remind us again and again. The opposite of that is focusing on the most fleeting of the unreal – thoughts and emotions. Duh!

What a “time-out” from the pressures of life I had that day just resting in my True Nature. I didn’t want to leave. I enjoyed three naps. Trisha asked me if I was getting sick. I told her I was learning how to relax. The big “ah-ha’s” came intermittently, unexpectedly and supremely joyously when I realized that every being on this planet is looking for the same thing – to get away from their minds and changing restlessness of outer life and take an eternal vacation in the peace and joy of their souls, in oneness with the blissful Spirit.

Janmashtami

Today is Janmashtami ~ the celebration of the birthday of Lord Krishna. Though I’ve been on the yogic path (meaning raja, rather than hatha) for well over 30 years, I must admit that I had never felt any deep connection with Krishna. When I was fairly new on the path my spiritual Papa said to me “you must feel very close to Krishna,” and I remember saying to him “no, not really.” He was surprised as he was able to perceive my past life experiences in India and he thought my subconscious memories of being a Krishna devotee would automatically rekindle that relationship within me. Overacting

I’m a vivid dreamer and often receive inner guidance from the messages given in “night school.” One lesson I’ll never forget came over 30 years ago. I was living in LA and had just left my acting career to serve the work of Paramahansa Yogananda. I was fairly new on the spiritual path and was going through a hard time, feeling very emotional and victimized. I suppose it was difficult for Spirit to get through my obsessed mind and so decided to try a dream. In it I was Mother Mary and my son, Jesus, was being crucified. I couldn’t bear the pain. As I looked up and saw him going through that great ordeal, I was absolutely inconsolable. Overcome by sorrow I was crying so hard that it wasn’t possible to stand on my own two feet and was being held up on either side by the apostle John and Mary Magdalene. This went on for a while when suddenly – cutting through the sound of my violent sobbing – came a loud male voice yelling “CUT!” Immediately the lights go on, the actors on either side of me release my arms and I almost fall. As I stood there trying to grasp the situation, the director walks up intensely looking at me. I was still catching my breath when he spoke with great emphasis: “This is just a movie and YOU are overacting!” Continue reading
