200 Hour Gentle Yoga Teacher Training
Summer/Fall Immersion 2019 Module 1: September 5-14 Module 2: November 7-16
The Soul of Yoga presents School of Gentle Yoga 200 Hour Teacher Training. Every body benefits from a gentle practice.
Change Lives in Ways You Can’t Imagine
How is this 200 Gentle Yoga training different than other 200 hour programs? School of Gentle Yoga’s 200 Hour Gentle Yoga Teacher Training looks very differently at the practice and teaching of yoga. In this Gentle Teacher Training you will learn to experience the body as it is in the present moment. Form follows function, the function of the asana is elevated above the visual form. Breath is the foundation of the practice. Felt sense is a primary focus. With all of these elements in place your yoga practice becomes a moving meditation, harmonizing body, breath, mind and senses. Every body benefits from a gentle practice.
Our schedules are designed for maximum immersion in our rich curriculum. Our students continue the process of learning by fulfilling homework requirements that support our program. Upon graduation from the Soul of Yoga Institute 200 Hour Training, you will be eligible to become a Registered Yoga Teacher through Yoga Alliance, the internationally recognized registry association for yoga teachers.
Summer/Fall Immersion 2019
Module 1: September 5-14 9:00am – 7:00pm
Module 2: November 7-16 9:00am – 7:00pm
Early Registration deadline: July 25, 2019
The School of Gentle Yoga Curriculum Covers:
Essence of Gentle Practice
breath as foundation – conscious breath is the gateway to exploring the natural balance between expansion and contraction; learn to balance and move between expansion and contraction, harmonizing body and mind.
form follows function – encourage grace in every moment through exploration and self-discovery; allow your innate gentleness to filter through influencing every action, thought, and relationship.
movement as meditation – understand how moving in rhythmic, breath-led arrangements allows even the most active practice to feel meditative and gentle
felt sense is key – learn to read the body as a map of sensation, with each sensation a cue to cultivate internal body awareness enabling greater connection between body, mind, heart, and spirit
Practice of Expansion & Inclusion
Learn to teach in a way that creates maximum value for every level of practitioner. Move away from absolute ideas of how something should look and find creative ways to explore and recreate the purpose and function of the pose without restraints or rigidity. This training is accessible and valuable for EVERYBODY.
Philosophy, Lifestyle & Ethics
A complete yoga practice includes the integration of the 8 Limbs of Yoga in daily life. In this training you will study from the complete system of Yoga as defined in Pantanjali’s Yoga Sutras and be guided on a journey of personal transformation using the foundational principles of the Yamas and Niyamas as a roadmap.
Anatomy & Physiology
You will study anatomy and physiology as they apply to a gentle asana practice. What are the benefits, contraindications, healthy movement patterns, etc.? Exploration of subtle anatomy is also emphasized – koshas, chakras, nadis – and their interrelatedness with the systems of the physical body.
Techniques, Practice & Integration
Prepare for an immersion into the art of asana, from static foundation to movement as meditation. Learn to teach core asanas with verbal instructions, breath coordination, lines of energy, variations, props, and modifications. The practices of pranayama, sense withdrawal, imagery, visualization, and meditation will be introduced to provide the skill to interweave these practices. Classes are designed through lectures, workshops, and practicums; your opportunity to practice leading asanas.
Drawing on components covered in Techniques, Philosophy, Lifestyle and Ethics, and Anatomy and Physiology this module expands into the broader aspects of teaching a class. Included are learning different ways to lead a posture, designing a class, creating flow, creating a supportive environment for self and students, adjusting for a class’ specific needs, observing and staying connected with the class, and assisting/correcting.
You are encouraged to understand and develop your own unique gifts, style and voice as you consider the qualities of a teacher.
Practicum, Presentations, & Exams
A total of 10 hours throughout your 200 hour yoga teacher training is dedicated to student teaching. The details are flexible and will be discussed during the course. Student Presentations and exam will be delivered at the end of your course and will also be further discussed in class.
Business of Yoga
Business aspects of teaching yoga, including finding your niche, marketing, technology, safety, insurance, and legal considerations are discussed. As yoga continues to rise in importance and popularity, career opportunities become increasingly plentiful.
Seva & Homework
Seva, or service, is an essential experience in the development of the yogi. You will select and perform some form of seva for the Soul community or for another organization and will document your experience in an essay. In addition to your seva practice, you will need to complete and hand in 20 hours of homework assignments. This homework prepares you to be able to do research and self-study on your own. Details of homework are provided in the School of Gentle Yoga manual.
Dannette is the Founding Director of the School of Gentle Yoga, specializing in classes, trainings, and workshops that focus on the art and science of subtle Yoga. After sustaining a life-changing traumatic brain injury in 1996, Dannette began a journey of recovery that led to a regular practice and deep study of the healing aspects of Yoga. A graduate of the IAYT accredited Yoga Therapy program at The Soul of Yoga Institute in Encinitas CA, Dannette has studied with master teachers of many lineages, and developed a unique style, combining her studies with her personal healing journey.
Moving Into Stillness is Dannette’s signature style; a combination of gentle movement, sequenced to prepare the body for the subtle healing of restorative postures, aided by the resonant sound of crystal bowls, creating a deeply expansive and releasing practice. Dannette considers it an incredible honor to live and teach in the Encinitas community of North San Diego County, while also having the opportunity to bring the School of Gentle Yoga teachings and trainings into hosting studios where there is a call for a return to the subtle aspects of Yoga. Every body benefits from time spent in a gentle practice.

Born in Italy and raised in France, Chiara was introduced to yoga in Hawaii in 2000 by her mentor. Through this mentor-ship she developed a love for Yoga, awakening the deep intelligence within her own body and spine. She taught and learned at the Salon Des Arts for the next 10 years focusing on posture correction through alignment, deep tissue strengthening and nervous system balancing. She then went on to San Diego and continued her education through the Soul of Yoga for her 200 and 500-hour certification. Mindful breathing, connecting to the heart, and alignment are all consistent points of focus in her class. Also studying Sacred Sound, Metaphysics, Astrology and Ayurveda she infuses these teachings in her class. Chiara’s teaching style is intuitive reminding us of the interconnectedness of all of life. The Gentle Yoga Teacher Training with Dannette was a thorough introduction to the full spectrum of yoga. I feel well prepared to teach asana with knowledge of adaptation/modifications for any practitioner. Perhaps more importantly I have come to understand that it is the integration of the physical body with the landscape of our mind and heart that together with the breath is the key to the transformative experience of yoga. I came to see the unfolding of our subtle body through the Koshas, the Chakras, along with meditation, and the 8 Limbs of Yoga (and much more) within the philosophy of the Sutras of Patanjali. Add a day of mindfulness at the local Buddhist Monastery and the overall leadership, passion, and compassion of Dannette and you have a complete opportunity to find your own path in Yoga both personally and in guiding others.
