The spine is the body’s central axis of support, movement, communication, and perception. Its health influences nearly every aspect of our lives—from mobility, stability, posture, balance, and coordination to sensation, breathing, digestion, circulation, and even our experience of pain and well-being.
This workshop explores the remarkable structure and function of the spine and its intimate relationship with the whole body. Participants will gain a practical understanding of the vertebral column, intervertebral discs, supporting ligaments, musculature, and nervous system while discovering the spine’s remarkable capacity to adapt throughout life. Through the lens of modern anatomy and yoga therapy, we’ll explore how posture, movement and nervous system regulation contribute to spinal resilience, function, and overall well-being.
Together, we’ll examine common spinal conditions, including degenerative disc disease, disc herniation, spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, spondylolisthesis, and spinal fusion surgery. Rather than viewing these diagnoses as the end of the story, we’ll explore why they develop, how they influence movement and function and how yoga therapy can help relieve pain, improve movement confidence, and support resilience and quality of life. Participants will leave with a deeper appreciation for the body’s innate capacity for adaptation and practical strategies to cultivate lifelong spinal resilience.
Whether you are seeking a deeper understanding of your own spine or looking to better support students and clients, you will leave with practical insights, therapeutic tools, and evidence-informed best practices that can be applied immediately in both personal practice and professional settings.
