What makes Kundalini Yoga different from other kinds of yoga?

We think of Kundalini Yoga as the Ferrari of Yogas. It’s not that it’s better than other yogas, it’s that it is designed to raise the energy fast. In a typical Kundalini Yoga class… Wait. There is no typical Kundalini Yoga class! You learn to expect the unexpected as there are more than 5000 variations of what can happen in any one class. This is why your teachers don’t always memorize every aspect of the sets they teach and bring notes sometimes.

In Kundalini Yoga practice,  there is also an emphasis on breathwork and meditation. Kundalini Yoga is not just physical postures (asana); it is a lifestyle. And you can choose the aspects of this lifestyle that suit you as you learn them throughout the training.

What if I don’t know the mantras?

We include mantras in your manual, along with their translations, and help you to learn them, as well as their meanings. We also provide you with musical resources so that you can listen to them, which is a great way to learn them.

Do I need to have experience in Kundalini Yoga to take a KundaliniYoga teacher training with you?

No. We have people who have never taken a single class start with the training as well as people who are experienced teachers. We meet you where you are.

Can I do it if I’m not in great shape?

Absolutely. Because we are permissions-oriented and modifications-friendly, you only do what feels good and right in your body. We offer modifications not only in support of injuries, but also just because, so that you can find a way to practice that feels good and safe  enough in your own body. This practice is more energetic than physical in the way that it works, so it’s not necessary to overdo anything.

Are there age or ability limitations?

No, for the reasons listed above. We are ready to meet you where you are.

What is your training schedule?

We typically start by 9:00am PST and finish at 4:45pm each day. We also have an early morning meditation which happens either during the actual module or between modules. Our goal is to have shorter days so that you have time to process, integrate, and rest. We also hold follow up aftercare meetings in between the modules to see how you’re doing and how things are feeling for you.

Can I take the training online or in person?

You can be online, or you can be in person. And because we are trauma-sensitive, we want you to take care of yourself and allow for the schedule to change as you may need it to. We make sure there’s enough physical space for everyone in the training. Whether you are suddenly inspired to hop on a plane and come last minute in person, or feel the need to go home into a quieter space to finish your day or week from there, we support you.

What if I have to miss a day of training?

We would like you to be present as much as possible. While it’s possible to take teacher trainings with a lot of pre-recorded content, we don’t recommend it because you benefit from having a full support team there holding space for you, able to answer questions, and able to offer modifications and corrections as needed. Not to mention offer support if something comes up for you while you’re practicing.  That said, we realize life happens and everything is recorded in the event that you need to be absent. You have access to the recordings for an entire year and can watch them again at any time during the training.

Do I need to wear special clothes or cover my head?

No. We will go over the potential benefits of wearing white, of wearing natural fibers, and of covering your head. Any one or perhaps none of these things will resonate, and we encourage you to get curious and try what you feel called to try, but ultimately to follow your intuition and do what feels right for you.

When I finish the training, will I be able to teach Kundalini Yoga?

Yes, you will! While our training also draws coaches and clinicians who want specifically use the breathwork and meditations with private clients, and while we also have many people who take it for their spiritual development with no intention to teach, everyone who takes the training will have the opportunity to practice teach, to design curriculum, and will be ready to teach Kundalini Yoga!

What makes your training special?

Our training is unique, in that while being traditional and preparing you to teach traditionally, we are trauma-sensitive, inclusive, and permissions-oriented. To that end, we build in somatic experiencing; information on how to teach in a trauma-sensitive way; and how to work with clients and students who are in an experience of anxiety, depression, grief, or addiction. While we are not training you to become clinicians, we want you to be able to offer modifications and be sensitive to a variety of populations. To that end, we also emphasize the importance of teaching in a way designed to support all genders and body types.

What will be different for me at the end of the training?

You will have a group of friends, many of whom may become your most supportive, good friends for life. You will have gone through a deeply introspective period of process work, learned more about yourself, and how to be gentle with your less than perfect parts. You will also have a roadmap to design an ongoing personal daily practice that can change as you do throughout your life, and that can support you and nurture you through challenges. You will be a Kundalini Yoga facilitator/teacher who is sensitive to the energy of this deep practice as well as the beautiful seekers who will unroll mats in front of you.

Yoga Alliance certification will be granted to course completers of all four modules 60 days after the final module is completed, to give time for completion of homework, a personal sadhana practice, and integration of this powerful work. During this time period after the training modules but before certification, we will be available to support and mentor you. Aftercare is a part of our training!

Dated December 2020

In the interest of full disclosure and transparency, we want to acknowledge that serious allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse of power have come forward against Yogi Bhajan. Yogi Bhajan, who left his body in 2004, was the individual who brought Kundalini yoga to the west in the 1960s. An investigation has been completed, and the allegations have been deemed in some cases “possibly happened”; in other cases, “probably happened.”

The Soul of Yoga is a refuge for all people, and most especially, those who have been subject to trauma and abuse. We have revised our training to make space for addressing this important issue.

We support and hold space for those who have experienced trauma, and we support the sharing of their stories. If stories of pain and trauma have been silenced, we hold space for them to be heard, and we also hold space for those who have endured any form of trauma and abuse.

My prayer is that as we all go through the intensity of these times, that we not lose the beauty of this practice and all it can do for us, and that even more importantly, that we not lose the beauty and depth of our connection with each other. Although we must openly examine and scrutinize the actions of the teacher and support any victims, please don’t miss this opportunity for life changing teachings and one of the most beautiful and supportive community experiences imaginable. Sat Naam.

I was so in love after my first Kundalini class that I plunged in and took my 200 hour Kundalini yoga teacher training to grow my practice. That was also such a life changing experience that I recommend everyone get involved and bring their practice to the next level. The teacher training is an amazing transformative journey. It is truly a gift of unexpected growth and a lifelong treasure. Kundalini yoga has forever changed my life! I can go into a class upset about something in my life and by the time class is done, I can barely remember what I was even upset about. Talk about yoga for your mind, body and soul!
Kate G. Encinitas, CA

I was lucky to have chosen such a fantastic immersive experience with just the right amount of time between modules to assimilate and integrate. The teachers are highly knowledgeable and heart centered, the schedule was well balanced, incorporating everything one needs to know to be not just a kundalini teacher but an awesome one! I definitely felt more connected to my heart and soul after the training and am able to experience a deeper connection with others as a result!

Sandrine Sita Amritdev

The information that my mind, body, and soul received [in this training] has been transformative. The greatest part is that I have more ways of glimpsing the infinite and feeling divine energy flow through my earthly body . … bringing me into a divine place of love and light and peace and ecstasy.
