Ayurveda Self Care ~ Guided by Nature

Knowledge of Ayurveda allows us to recognize our own patterns and be able to take action to self-correct our course. There’s a wide range of simple therapeutic responses in this system of personal, dynamic and practical self care. We start gaining knowledge and becoming more stable in ourselves while also seeking objective guidance from trained practitioners and medically trained clinical Vaidya (Ayurveda Doctors in India).

Health through Ayurveda is a community and a continuum of care – we learn self-care and can then share general guidance with our friends and family. We also know when it is time to seek and receive professional care. This experience leads many of us to train in this clinical science for a career in Ayurveda Lifestyle Counseling. Step in and discover where your passion lies and know you are entering a wisdom system that has cared for and guided people for thousands of years. It is something we can trust and work with at all levels – physical health, mental and emotional balance and spiritual growth.

Join us in community for our First Friday gatherings and monthly workshops to support each other on this journey to self care guided by nature.

A thorough evaluation of the digestive and eliminative system is a critical part of preventative health. What is “normal” when it comes to poop? The color, shape, size, frequency, odor and consistency of stool has much to tell about what’s working or not working upstream in the digestive and detoxification systems. When you have more awareness of healthy stool, a quick inspection will help you check into the area that shows the first signs of imbalance in the body. This is key to having a more informed picture of your health on a daily basis.

Each season brings us opportunities to enhance our health and healing. A fall cleanse is in preparation for winter, to prevent the body from building up toxicity during the coming winter months. It is designed to strengthen the digestion in order to best create and maintain healthy tissue. This is done through a light and well spiced diet that allows the digestive system to rest. This allows the body’s resources to be directed to digestion on a deeper level, to restore a strong digestive fire and clean the blood of any impurities.

Spices that you may have in your kitchen can be used to strengthen appetite and digestion – learn how fennel, cumin, turmeric, fresh ginger, cinnamon, cardamom can greatly enhance digestion and absorption.

October 2024

10-4-24 First Friday Class: Immunity with Durga (click here to register)

The essential energy of the immune system is known as Ojas in Ayurveda. It literally means ‘vigor’. It is a special Ayurvedic concept indicating the sap of our life energy. When it is sufficient, there is health. When it is deficient, there is disease. Disease strikes at the locations where it is weak. Ojas is decreased by factors such as stress, anxiety, anger, worry, sorrow and overwork. Low Ojas causes premature aging, and Ojas decreases with age, hence diseases of old age also reflect low Ojas.
