This month’s Cosmic Forecast has some intensity to it. Essential questions are being asked as old family patterns arise. As you read through this, understand that the common theme rests on those family patterns and the opportunities they can create: the gifts these same patterns can offer and bring back online, and the chance to develop more self-honesty and fulfilling relationships. This month, we’re asked to do the work, and if we keep our internal setting dialed into the cosmic field, trusting that it’s working in service of our growth, this can be an exciting time.

Inheritance & Choice

Some things come back into our lives because we have grown enough and are now ready to meet them differently. It could be as simple as an unfinished conversation or even a creative practice we once loved that starts calling to us again. We may experience a familiar disagreement that reveals how quickly we can slip into an old role, even when we thought we had changed.

During this time period, however, awareness may be that we may become more tuned into what we have inherited from our families. We may hear a parent’s words in our own voice or recognize that a decision about money, work, or love has been shaped by a story that predates us.

We can’t choose what we were given, but we can decide what we feed, allowing it to live on. Consider that some things are ready to be renewed while others can be understood, honored, and released.

The question is: What brings value into the life you are living now? What will you continue to feed?

Although the past can reappear through a dramatic event, it often comes through in ordinary moments like a skill you learned as a child, or an old friend who reaches out after years apart. It may even appear in your response to a difficult moment or when you hear yourself say something you promised you would never say.

The key is noticing these moments because it gives you room to choose by asking questions like: where did this reaction come from? Does it serve me today?

You can even learn to be curious about a returning interest without needing it to become your new purpose. You can speak with someone from your past while remembering that you are both new versions of yourself now.

It’s essential to keep in mind that returning to something doesn’t inherently mean you are repeating it. I mean that so much, I almost want to write that sentence again. This is an opportunity to see how much you have grown. Sometimes we miss these moments because life has a way of ushering us through invisible thresholds that we sometimes don’t even notice how much we have expanded. Change is a natural occurrence in life, we do it whether we are paying attention or not. Right now asks us to pay attention.

It’s also important to acknowledge that we have themes of our lives and these themes are lived because it’s what we’ve come here to master. It’s not always that “you didn’t learn the lesson the first time around.” It’s actually life evolving you into your mastery.

Look for the parts of you that you have gained a little more mastery over. Life will give you the opportunity to recognize this.

Inheritance

Our families pass on humor, prayers, abilities, ways of caring, and ways of surviving. They also pass on beliefs about worthiness, how much security is enough, and whether it is safe to ask for what we need.

Just like in our own stories, we learn to adapt and our adaptations can be productive or destructive in our lives and relationships. Think about how your family may have learned to adapt for their own sense of emotional, mental, or even physical, survival. Maybe you had a relative who saved everything but that was because the knew what it was like to have very little. Or perhaps you had a parent who avoided conflict so they how to keep silent to keep the peace which they picked up on in their childhood home. Understanding the reason behind patterns of adaptability can help us regard ourselves, and others, compassion. An important point is that understanding is not the same as excusing.

We can honor a family lineage while choosing different ways of being for ourselves and our own lives.  The timing is aligned to ask yourself which family lessons still nourish you and which keep you feeling smaller than you are.

Observe ordinary choices. Things like what you say yes to, how much you spend for “no reason”, what you keep to yourself, and what you finally allow yourself to ask for.

Repair & Renewal

Repair and renewal can begin when we have the courage to be honest, no matter how uncomfortable it can be. Do you owe any amends to anyone? Or do you want to apologize to relieve yourself of guilt or to save face? A sharp question, I know. But this is what is being called for in service of repair and renewal.

You might have a friendship that needs a conversation about the distance that has grown between you. Is there a misalignment, a misunderstanding or a natural ebb? Are you willing to be with whatever that is?

Does a relationship need new agreements now that either of you, or your lives have changed? What adjustments can be made for a relationship to go through renewal so it too can experience growth?

Before trying to restore a connection, consider what repair would require. Is it worth it? Or have you outgrown something and are holding on for other reasons?

Sometimes something precious can grow again while other times you discover that a relationship can’t return to its earlier form. That discovery can be painful, but it can also help you decide what kind of contact is possible. Making peace doesn’t always mean becoming close again but it can mean honoring what is in the natural order so growth and expansion can guide you into the next version of yourself.

Listening & Care

When old feelings surface, communication can be difficult. Remember that you are establishing new patterns so it’s important to take it easy on yourself, and others. We may fumble our words or answer too quickly because we expect to be misunderstood, or avoid speaking because we remember how the conversation went last time. We may be trying to understand ourselves more quickly than we can in that moment.

Fear and frustration can tell us that something is asking for attention, but it’s not always clear about what to do next. A walk, a few moments alone, or a conversation with someone we trust may help us understand what lies beneath the first surge of feeling. Asking for time doesn’t mean abandoning the conversation, it’s an opportunity to avoid self-abandonment by learning how to listen.

Before a significant conversation, consider what is most important now. Is there a feeling you haven’t shared, a question you need answered, or a boundary you need to express? Be aware if you are harboring resentment and notice how it might want to come out. Also, think about what the conversation is for. Who do you want to be in that conversation? And can you pause and embody your highest aspects of yourself by stepping into them in body and mind?

A practice I’ve long used is being aware of my true essence and giving them names. Such as; compassionate, present, connected, joyful, and openminded. Before challenging conversations and situations, I go through a ritual with myself to put myself in those qualities.

Another aspect of this is giving the space for others that you are for yourself. Remember, this is what’s in the cosmic field, which means this is a universal energy that will have its impact on others as well. It’s a beautiful time to give others the grace to explore their growth as well.

Deep listening deserves attention. Deep listening, deeper than what is actually being said. You don’t have to be in agreement to be in alignment and this can come up right now. Honoring the journey of yourself, others and the relationship as it’s on its own journey carrying you through your self discovery. There is a lot of honor that is beyond personality.

The Gift

The past can also return with generosity. As you make your way into a more expanded version of yourself, utilizing things from the past as the fertile soil, you may find that you are drawn toward writing, music, study, teaching, or another interest you once abandoned, or wouldn’t dare let yourself pick up. The timing is ripe for you to recognize a skill you have used privately for years could now be offered more openly, without shame or self-doubt with a sense of renewal.

Do what you can to give the interest room before deciding what it’s supposed to become. It’s easy to get excited or to become strategic when a new world opens up. This is a time to remember that a creative pursuit doesn’t need to earn money to deserve your time. If it’s meant to be central to your life, or your bank account, that will be revealed to you at a later date. Accept the gift without giving it a big story.

Choosing What Continues

Honoring our ancestors takes many forms. We might pray, tell their stories, make food they loved, or learn more about the lives they led. We can remember their kindness and courage while remaining clear about what was painful or unfinished. It’s a time to hold the spectrum of experiences; internal and external.

We honor them most by the way we live the ordinary moments of our life, how we treat ourselves and how we engage with the world. Perhaps we continue a gift they passed on, even if it comes in a different form. We may even meet an old family difficulty with greater care than they were able to give it in the past.

Take time to look at what has returned to your attention. Things aren’t coming up for you to resolve them all at once. There is no need to try to carry everything from your past but instead, look at the reflection and be brave enough to look in that mirror.

You can receive what still brings life, tend what is repairable, and let your choices show what you wish to pass on and continue feeding.
