Tarab – Translated to “enchantment,” is an Arabic word describing a musical performance that guides the audience into a deep feeling of divine connection and ecstasy. An eclectic ensemble of six local musicians, Tarab ensemble seamlessly fuses Middle Eastern and eclectic melodies with the spontaneous and soulful improvisation characteristic of Bhakti music, creating a transcendent sonic journey that resonates with spiritual energy. Their performances, marked by vibrant rhythms and emotive vocals, invite listeners to embark on a unique and uplifting musical pilgrimage that transcends cultural boundaries. Join a caravan-like journey through Sufi fusion Kirtan mantras in Sanskrit, Arabic and English, to invoke joy, peace, and community. Featuring the sounds of Middle Eastern doumbek, West African djembe, Indian pads on harmonium and piano keys, Iranian scales on violin, guitar grooves and luscious vocals, this one-time special event is not to be missed.

The practice of call and response singing involves the mind in the experience in the now moment, to get out of the negative thoughts of past and future, or self-talk into a sense of oneness that shared musical experience creates. Even scientifically, brain scans show that singing together shifts the mind into a meditative state and we carry that forth into life with mantras that are remembered in song. Basically, our soul’s long for these three things; community, music, silence. The space of silence at the end of each chant holds an opportunity for deep breathing and healing.

This ensemble promises to move your body in rhythmical grooves and open your heart in luscious melodies. We welcome you to this caravan of world rhythms carrying us to a place of peace as a benefit for all humanity and all sentient beings. We look forward to seeing you there.
