Have you ever wanted to implement the arm balances offered in Vinyasa classes but don’t know where to start?
This workshop will be a vinyasa flow class with pauses to discuss the technique and alignment for each arm balance. You will strengthen your core, gain flexibility in relevant muscle groups (open hips and hamstrings are key for many common arm balances), and understand how to transition in and out of each balance. This class is most appropriate for Level 2+.
The prerequisite for this class is that you have no pain in your wrists, elbows or shoulders while holding a plank position.
Sample of poses we will cover:
- Eka Pada Bakasana A and B
- Galavasana & Maksikanagasana
- Koundinyasana A and B
Workshop Price:Â $50 pre registration; $60 at the door
Teacher Bio: Rachel Leshaw stumbled upon her first yoga class during college and immediately began a casual weekly practice. She completed her first Ashtanga Vinyasa teacher training with Larry Schultz at It’s Yoga in San Francisco in 2003. After a few years of teaching yoga in Bay Area public high schools, Rachel moved to Encinitas and started teaching adults. She completed the Anusara teacher training with Michael Fukumura in 2009.
Rachel began practicing with Tim Miller in 2011. She completed his Primary Series teacher training in 2014 and Second Series teacher training in 2016. She had the pleasure of assisting Tim in his weekly Intro to Ashtanga classes that included philosophy and discussion of yoga sutras.
Rachel’s classes are challenging, playful and lighthearted. She loves watching her students become more comfortable in their bodies and gain confidence.
