This course will help you understand how to convey the concept of Yoga Therapy to the public and other professionals, set up your business, market yourself and how other Yoga Therapists have made successful careers in the field in various ways. We’ll cover important topics for Yoga Therapists such as mental health resourcing and safety guidelines, HIPAA laws, scope of practice, referral protocols, professional ethics, the question of touch and insurance billing. There is plenty of time for questions and answers and the sharing of various experiences, challenges and success stories.

October 2nd: The Profession of Yoga Therapy

Monique Lonner, C-IAYT, Director of Soul of Yoga’s Yoga Therapy Training Program will lead key discussions about the profession and emerging field of Yoga Therapy including:

  • What is Yoga Therapy and what makes it a uniquely valuable approach to healing and wellness,
  • How to develop your own description of your Yoga Therapy offering,
  • IAYT’s Yoga Therapy Scope of Practice,
  • Common interpersonal issues that arise in professional relationships including projection and transference,
  • Cautions and recommendations on the use of touch,
  • HIPAA laws and how they pertain to our profession,
  • Potential for insurance billing and being a part of the Western Medical world.

October 3 Morning Workshop: Business Models & Marketing for the Yoga Therapist
With Susana Jones

  • Entrepreneurial opportunities for yoga therapists that are in-person, online, or hybrid
  • Distinguishing between business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) offerings
  • How to create a digital foundation for attracting, serving, and retaining paying clients
  • A three-tiered marketing approach that generates value, raises your credibility, and demonstrates your expertise
  • How to center the needs of potential clients in your marketing approach
  • The “five pranas of a healthy client cycle”, which supports the YT Scope of Practice

October 3 Afternoon Workshop: Yoga Entrepreneurship: Inside Knowledge from a Studio Owner

Ryan Stanley, Soul of Yoga owner and Executive Director since 2017 and previous corporate executive, will be sharing many insights from his experience of running a yoga studio and many other businesses in this 3 hour session. He will be covering topics such as:

  • What Studio Owners Look for When Hiring Teachers
  • How Yoga Teachers Successfully Build Attendance in Classes
  • Economics of Yoga Business
  • Negotiating Compensation
  • Options for Your Yoga Business Structure
  • Generous time for Q&A, allowing for the discussion to go wherever it is most meaningful

October 4 Morning Workshop: Grant Funding Pros, Cons and Practicalities 
With Joanne Hader

This session will introduce grant funding as an adjunct funding source to allow you to diversity your income stream as a yoga therapist.

Grant funding from governments, national or local foundations, health charities, or workplace wellness initiatives is often accessed to make yoga accessible to people without the means to pay, to get the benefits of yoga into the workplace, or to offer yoga to specific populations such as those with chronic health conditions who would not seek out yoga as a therapy alternative.

Using a specific example of a successful grant application for a group yoga therapy program, the session covers when and why you may want to explore this as a funding opportunity, strategies for looking for grant funding locally, the detailed process of applying for funding, and tips for running your funded program & completing reports for funders.

October 4 Afternoon Workshop: Mindful Marketing and Instagram 101
With Kellie Livingstone

Marketing and social media can be a necessary part of any business, especially for yoga teachers. This workshop is designed to support you in finding an authentic online presence that allows you to market your various offerings and build an engaged community. We will go over:

  • Content creation and strategy
  • Building a unique brand
  • Instagram basics
  • How to avoid social media burnout

October 5: Mental Health Resourcing for Yoga Therapists
With Lisa Saremi

This full-day training is designed to equip yoga therapists with essential mental health resourcing tools to ethically and confidently navigate situations where a client experiences emotional challenges. Through guided discussions, practical strategies, and experiential learning, participants will learn how to recognize when a client may benefit from outside support, how to build a trusted referral network, and how to appropriately respond when these situations arise. This course emphasizes the role of the yoga therapist as an integral part of a whole person care team.

October 6: Panel Discussion

Monique Lonner – Yoga Therapist, is the Director and creator of Soul of Yoga Institute Advanced Yoga Teacher Training and Yoga Therapy Training Programs. A Yoga teacher for 15 years, she studied in India, New York and California with Master teachers and spiritual sages including, most notably, the teaching faculty of the Soul of Yoga Institute Advanced Program. Drawing upon her professional skills as a non-profit event organizer she developed the Advanced Teacher Training and Yoga Therapy Program for Soul of Yoga, bringing together those who are considered to be the best of the best Master yoga teachers in the world today. A devoted spiritual seeker, as well as an experienced anatomy and physiology teacher she has created a comprehensive program which balances the study of Yoga Therapy technique with the insight and wisdom of Yogic and metaphysical philosophy.

With an MA in Clinical Depth Psychology from the Pacifica Graduate Institute and deep-rooted understanding of trauma and addiction, she curates a healing approach that addresses the complexity of the human psyche.

As a graduate of The Soul of Yoga’s Yoga Therapy program, Lisa transmits her comprehensive professional expertise into enriching teachings. In her role as an educator, Lisa provides comprehensive guidance to individuals on their journey through grief, trauma, and major life transitions. Her support proves particularly transformative for those undertaking the challenging path towards overcoming addiction. Lisa’s work symbolizes the remarkable metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly, epitomizing the potential for growth and transformation inherent in us all.


Kellie Livingstone is a certified yoga therapist and yoga educator, specializing in offerings that involve postural awareness, breathwork, heartfelt intention, and contemplation.

With over 2000 hours of education and 12 years of experience under her belt, she finds herself a forever student of this beautiful practice. It is a sincere joy and privilege to hold space for folks seeking to better understand their bodies, nourish their nervous systems, and learn about the roots of yoga.


Joanne Hader is an IAYT certified yoga therapist and registered yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance (RYT ®500). She specializes in yoga for actively aging adults and family caregivers.

Joanne is an iRest® deep relaxation Level 1 teacher. She holds a certificate in Active Aging from CanFitPro and a certificate in Resilience First Aid from Hello Driven.

She has advanced yoga training in chair yoga, yoga for brain injury, advanced asanas (physical poses), pranayama (yogic breathing techniques), meditation, and yoga for grief, emotional wellness and mood disorders.


Ryan Stanley became an owner of the Soul of Yoga in early 2017, but Ryan has been dabbling in Yoga at the Soul since 2010. He has gained important learnings from his teachers Trisha Kelly, Tom Kelly, Flossie Park, and Monique Lonner, including participating and becoming certified in Soul of Yoga’s 200 and 300 hour teacher training programs. In mid 2022 Ryan became the Director of Soul of Yoga’s 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training program.

As an owner Ryan has had the opportunity to be exposed to many worldwide master teachers, but has connected the deepest so far with the teachings of Mark Whitwell’s Heart of Yoga personal practice. While he continues to work with his Soul of Yoga teachers, he has been practicing with Mark every time he visits the US. Ryan has experienced so many benefits from this simple practice he is driven to share it with as many people as possible.

Susana’s classes are designed to nurture the body’s tissues, balance the flow of vital energy, calm the mind and access a deep reservoir of wisdom and joy. She is honored to provide weekly Yoga of Recovery classes with Soul of Yoga, where she also serves as a Mentor to Yoga Therapy students.
