Saturday October 19th 10am- 5pm
10am-1pm: Iyengar 101 ~ Gabriel will share some of his experiences, recounting teacher trainings in India, conventions in the United States, anecdotes of one-on-one time with the master, and the thrill of hosting Mr. Iyengar when he stayed with me and my partner when he visited the Yoga Circle back in 1990.
Today’s theme will be putting an end to our brains getting hacked daily. Standing poses teach the skills that ground us solidly on earth into direct, not virtual experience. Then backbends counter the constant flexion that we all live with from too much time spent driving our car, internet trolling and being in front of our cell phones many times throughout the day.
2pm-5pm: Genius of Iyengar Sequencing ~ Gabriel will give a comprehensive overview of his interpretation of the way to understand the anger system and methodical unfolding over weeks/month/year/in decades.
In this session you’ll focus on inversions, especially headstand and shoulder stand, and learn why these poses are called the king and queen of asanas. This class is especially for those who are averse to going upside down. Beginners will find a safe methodology to approach inversions while advanced students will take on the challenge of inversion variations.
Sunday October 20th 10am-1pm & 2-5pm
Yoga Chikitsa & Yoga Therapeutics ~ the use of modifications, props and partner assisted asana will address problems in the neck & shoulders, hips & knees, and the lower back. First give relief, then correct the improper posture.
Taking the corners of the body (shoulders & hips) through its safe range of motion ensures its ability to flex, extend, rotate and invert without pain. Using traction along the longitudinal axis of the spine releases the impingement between the vertebrae and immediately restores healthier functioning as the body adjusts itself in the absence of distortions.
Body sighting to see directly what is going on in the anatomy and hands on adjustments help practitioners get the “aha” experience of what a pain free posture is all about.
This will be a perfect interactive class for teachers, teacher trainees, and serious students.~ the use of modifications, props and partner assisted asana will address problems in the neck & shoulders, hips & knees, and the lower back. First give relief, then correct the improper posture.
